Midway Geyser Basin

June 29
Our last stop was at the Midway Geyser Basin
. Your first view is of the two flumes sending hot water into the Firehole River from Excelsior Crater. This crater sends up large clouds of very warm steam. However right next to the steam is some very cool air. Strange sensation as you walk through.
As you continue on the boardwalk you come to Grand Prismatic Lake. It is more than 300 feet in diameter and has brillant bands of yellow. green and orange radiating from it. Near the boardwalk, the water is shallow and wolf, elk and possibly bison tracks could be seen.
The walk ended by Opal Pool that did truly look like a gem.
On this ride we saw very few animals but as we were leaving, by Grant Village, we had a wolf run across right in front of us.
