On our last visit to Yellowstone, from the South Entrance, we went back to the Old Faithful area to further explore the Upper Geyser Basin. This is quite an active area with a lot of steam and eruptions.
The top picture is Sawmill Geyser. It was very active when I walked by toward Grand Geyser but when I came back it had totally stopped and the blue water was even gone. Grand geyser had water gushing at a 45 degree angle from the front and a high boiling pool on the side.
The Scallopped Spring shows another of the beautiful blues the water can be.
The Crested Pool is a similar blue with thermophiles coloring the water leaving the pool.
Castle Geyser is one of the more impressive formations with equally impressive eruptions-but we were there at the wrong time. They do make predictions for some of the geysers but they often have large + or - factors.
