Cape Meares State Park

August 30,
This state park boast not only the lighthouse but the octopus tree. Cape Meares Light is the shortest on the Oregon coast at only 38 feet, but has a large first order Fresnel lens. Unfortunately the lens has been damaged by vandals and it will take over a half million dollars to fix it.

The octopus tree is a very unusually shaped sitka spruce. It's base is over sixteen feet across with many limbs . It is between 250 and 300 years old. How it came to be shaped this way has not been figured out.
