North Cascades Highway Loop

August 6,
Our last journey with Jon and Annie was from Sedro-Wooley to Diablo Lake
Sedro-Wooley is known for it's murals and chain saw sculpture. We stopped at the Newhalem Visitor's Center where the gazebo was created from old high line parts. Newhalem came to be in the early 1900s when the power from the Skagit River was harnessed. It still is a small, very remote town for those that run the power plant. We continued on the Diablo Lake. We were surrounded by b
eautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. On the way home we saw a large herd of elk grazing in an area designated as a wildlife viewing area. For anyone reading this that has ever searched the roadside for wildlife, you know how unusual this is. We had a great time with Jon and Annie and will always wish we weren't 3000 miles apart.
