August 12,
Port Townsend is a pretty old coastal city with a large fort, a lighthouse and a busy town center. Fort Worden seems to be very much used today both as a camp for kids and a tourist destination. Many of the old officers houses are used as guest houses and the barracks as youth camps.
Point Wilson Lighhouse is beyond the Fort and though not destroyed it could use a little TLC. So far the West Coast doesn't seem to restore their lights like the East Coast does.
We walked around the charming Main Street and looked in a lot of shops. The showy orchid-like fushia along with a similar red were hanging in front of some shops. As we've seen in other Washington towns beautiful murals appeared in the strangest places.
